Best Product on the Market, Beauty Sleep?

March 3-10 is the National Sleep Foundation's annual week-long campaign to celebrate the health benefits of sleep.  That got us to thinking, is sleep one of the best beauty products out there?  Anyone who has pulled an all-nighter past the age of 25 has experienced, the morning drag, bloodshot eyes and the dark circles.  Not a good look. In Stephanie Watson's Feature for WebMD, New York City dermatologist Doris Day, MD.  notes,  "your skin, and your whole body, goes into repair mode when you sleep".

A good night's sleep allows helps us stay on top of some of the biggest challenges we face, when we sleep well, we are less likely to eat junk, our stress levels stay lower and we are more likely to workout.  All good things for our overall appearance.

Easier said that done, right?  Here are some tips to get a better night's sleep.

  1. Stick to a sleep schedule -  Go to bed and get up at the same time every day.
  2. Create a bedtime ritual - Do things that let your body and mind wind down before you go to sleep.
  3. Get comfortable - Create a bedroom that is your haven, colors that are calming, comfortable linens and a room that you can keep cool and make dark and quiet.
  4. Manage your stress - Your daily todo list can wreak havoc on your sleep.  Give yourself permission to take a break, keep a pad and pen next to your bed and jot down what's on your mind and then set it aside to the next day.
